Colorado Filmmaker Block
Five unique Colorado films featuring unique Colorado issues and voices. From a poetic animistic documentary and new looks at ecological solutions to the journeys of adventurers facing adversity and cultivating community, these films will inspire and unite in the Colorado spirit.
These film blocks each showed at this summer at the Ouray International Film Fest to packed rooms- the Colorado film block sold out and had an encore screening later in the fest, and the Filipino film block won the 2025 grand jury prize at the festival.
COLORADO FILMS

Shift Tha Culture follows pro snowboarder Zeb Powell on a deeply personal journey of self-discovery and cultural impact. Set against the backdrop of Burton’s annual Culture Shifters event, the film explores Powell’s evolving connection to his Black identity and his mission to bring diversity to the mountains.

In 1995 Los Angeles, Filipino teen Shawn sets out to ask his best friend Nico’s sister to the prom that night. He does so by affixing onto himself a caricature of a Black person, and therefore must realize that doing so is wrong, on so many levels. Eventually, he gets help from his favorite rapper, and runs to apologize to Nico before Nico leaves for the prom himself.
