SJMA is honored to be the adopter of Segment 25.1 of the Colorado Trail. This segment stretches 11 miles from Molas Pass to Rolling Pass, and is a beautiful & dynamic section.
We'll be hosting 2 adoption trail projects throughout the summer. Each trip will last three days and two nights. We will be conducting vital routine trail maintenance.

Equipment: SJMA & CTF will provide all tools, hardhats, gloves, volunteer shirts, eye protection, and one backpacking meal. Volunteers will need to provide all their own equipment for camping or backpacking (food, water, sleeping set-up).

Transportation: We will be carpooling from the SJMA office in Durango to Little Molas and back to Durango for each of these projects. Or, you are welcome to drive yourself to Little Molas and meet us for the project.

Details: NO trail experience is required to participate in any of these projects! Any volunteers under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult. If we need to cancel or shift project dates due to weather, we'll be in contact as soon as possible and work with the group to adjust as needed.

Training: No training is required for any of these projects. All trail work training will take place in the field, led by SJMA staff. Read up on trail maintenance resources from CTF here.

Colorado Trail trip #2 (August 5th-7th): The details of this trip are still evolving but we will have assistance from Lois the Llama Lady and possibly Bill Redwood's llamas.. Basecamp will be 4-6 miles from Little Molas.

New Moon Hike 2025

We are calling YOU to the heart of high country!

The New Moon Hike is one of our most special events of the year!

This is a permitted, guided, and limited size of the group experience. We only have 20 spots on this amazing hike and we WILL have a waitlist again this year.

SIGN UP NOW to ensure you do not miss this special, transformational, and meaningful hike experience in the heart of high country (Silverton, Colorado).

REGISTER TO ATTEND: https://christinefonner.com/event/silverton-new-moon-hike/

Join us for a special weekend with a New Moon Hike experience on Saturday in the San Juan Mountains of Colorado. Beyond breathtaking views of jagged mountains, we will come together in celebration of sisterhood, feel the powerful energy of the new moon cycle, and experience spiritual transformation together in the wilderness.

This trip is inspired by Sharon Blackie’s book, "If Women Rose Rooted.”

We will start with a Friday meet and greet at a local art gallery and you will explore Silverton and enjoy dinner on your own.

Saturday's New Moon Intention Ceremony is where we lay our hopes, fears, and dreams out vulnerably for all of us to see and support. The darkness of the new moon is a time for reflection and exploring the unseen.

New Moon energy is all about new beginnings. It is a spiritual calling to be fully present so you can explore your deepest desires and heartfelt wishes that sometimes get lost in the flurry of so much doing. August is the 2nd Moon of the Coyote, Leo Moon, and the Sturgeon Moon which symbolizes gratitude for the bounties of nature, and asks us to step into the flow and appreciate the fruits of all seasons and the unique beauties of the cycles of life.

As we hike up the mountain and into the wilderness, we will guide you in connecting with nature, yourself, and in being present. At the top, we will look out at the land before us and be reminded that we are significant and powerful and we will tap into our female energy in a Transformational Celebration. On the way back down, you will learn about local history, landscapes, and tundra while bonding with each other in physical adventure. The day will end with reflection, discussion, and in learning how to bring this experience forward into your daily life.

We end our time together with a Sunday private yoga class at Move Studio.

Colorado Trail Volunteer Work

Colorado Trail trip #1 (July 18th-20th): The details of this trip are still evolving but we will likely have assistance from the Backcountry Horsemen. Basecamp will be 4-6 miles from Little Molas.
